What is the GLA:D Program?

The GLA:D® program is an education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms.

The program combines education and exercise to provide you with the best care for managing osteoarthritis (OA). This is based on the latest evidence in OA research.

What does it involve?

  • An initial appointment with your physiotherapist to measure your current function and develop goals.

  • Two education sessions which teach you about OA, its risk factors, treatment options, and self-management strategies.

  • Group exercise sessions 2x per week for 6 weeks.

  • A review at 3 months following your initial appointment to measure your progress and plan more goals.

  • Completion of a questionnaire on registration with the program, and then again at 3 months, and 12 months after registration to measure changes in your pain, function, and quality of life.

How do I participate in the program?

You can participate in the GLA:D program if you have had any experience with hip or knee pain symptoms due to OA, regardless of how bad. No referral is required although you may be eligible to use Medicare funding to cover costs of assessments with an Enhanced Primary Care referral from your treating doctor.

Get in touch with one of our staff members today if you would like to discuss the program, or you can a ‘long appointment’ using our online booking to schedule your assessment session.
